The Future of Beer Marking: Loveland Aleworks' SNEED-JET® Story

What is Loveland Aleworks?

What better way to end a day of hiking, swimming, or adventuring around Colorado than with an IPA in hand, but not just any IPA, a Loveland Aleworks IPA? Over ten years ago, Nick and Kari Callaway opened this independent, family-owned craft brewery in downtown Loveland, Colorado, and they’ve been serving crafted ale, stouts, and IPAs ever since. The Callaways have been raising brewing standards and creating a welcoming environment for their community like no other for over a decade now.

There’s so much more to experience at Loveland Aleworks than just sipping on unique brews like Blackberry Lemon Bar Sour, Cotton Candy Sour, and Milk Stout; you can also enjoy trivia nights, night runs, comedy shows, cornhole tournaments, and much more, so if you’re ever in Loveland, Colorado, don’t miss out.

Why Did Loveland Aleworks Seek Out a Thermal Inkjet Printer?

When Loveland Aleworks first started distributing and selling their tasty creations, they were still relying on a manual date coder, but once demand started to ramp up, they quickly realized that they needed to automate their coding and marking process. How could something as small as a best-by-date, date code, batch code, or other codes lead to the need for automation?

According to “Lot, Codes, and Life: Dating in the Beer Industry,” an article written by the Beverage Master,

  • “Date lot coding and traceability is required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration…However, the exact method of recording date lot codes is ultimately up to each individual brewer.”

Not only do brewers like Loveland Aleworks have to provide traceability information to comply with federal regulations, but also to keep consumers informed and safe. If there was ever a recall, having date codes and lot codes could prevent pulling an entire product’s stock from store shelves and instead focus on retracting only the affected product using those codes; in other words, you’d save yourself the headache and frustration.

You can see why having a reliable coding and marking process is so essential in the brewing industry. Still, with traditional printing equipment costing an arm and a leg, it might not always be an option within the budget for small, family-owned breweries like Loveland Aleworks.

A New Era of Coding and Marking at Loveland Aleworks?

With thermal-inkjet technology being as affordable and simple as it is, Loveland Alework had nothing but great things to say about integrating our SNEED-JET® Titan printer into their workflow. One of their team members went on to say,

  • “Installing the printer was fairly easy thanks to the instructions, and once we got it figured out, we were off; we now use it 2-3 times a week, which helps us produce 500+ prints per run.”

With the SNEED-JET ® Titan printer, Loveland Alework no longer had to worry about inconsistent, smudged, or missing prints as they would when they were relying on their manual date coder. Before finding the Titan, the team over at Loveland Alework spent way too much adjusting their manual date coder whenever the printed information had changed, not to mention that they would have to realign the system with their products again.

Rather than having to fidget with manual date coding practices, the team at Loveland Aleworks opted for a SNEED-JET® Titan printer to help them increase the number of craft beers they could date coder per shift. In addition to improving accuracy and labeling speeds, the brewery could now let their consumers make mixed 4-packs of their craft beer, seeing as though they would know the date code on each individual can.

Adding date, lot, batch, or even best-by-codes doesn’t have to be complicated; it just takes the right coding and marking technology to help you get the job done right. The SNEED-JET® Titan has helped Loveland Aleworks and many other family-owned breweries #KeepCodingSimple; now it’s time to determine which SNEED-JET ® thermal-inkjet coder is right for you.

Why waste time dealing with outdated coding and marking processes when you could sip on an IPA?
